The Voyager Returns!

After a couple of years, the Royal Air Force sent over an RAF Voyager KC2, serial ‘ZZ331’ to LMML on a navigational training flight, arriving directly from RAF Brize Norton and departing back to base after a few hours sitting on the tarmac at LMML.

The Voyager is a modified version of the Airbus A330 and is the RAF’s sole air-to-air refuelling (AAR) tanker, while also operating as a strategic air transport aircraft.

The example that visited LMML is known as a Voyager KC.Mk 2, equipped with two underwing pods for refuelling the RAF’s Eurofighter Typhoons. In addition, the RAF operate another version called the Voyager KC.Mk 3, which has an additional centreline hose that is normally used by large aircraft.
